Updated for 2016!
Fall is almost here! Well, sort of. It’s still in the 90s and I’m starting to lose it. But this time last year we were dealing with a broken AC, so it could be worse.
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the holiday season to begin, starting with Halloween. Since October is right around the corner, here are some of my top choices of things to do next month.
North Georgia State Fair (Sep. 22- Oct. 2, hours vary)
2245 Callaway Road
Marietta, GA 30008
Atlanta Challenge: Urban Scavenger Hunt (Oct. 2)
Teams of two or more will dash around the city, racing against other Challengers for immortal glory (and cash prizes!) as they solve tricky clues, strategize the best route, and explore undiscovered corners of the city.
TBD Downtown Atlanta start location
Early registration price deals end soon–More info
Sunday in the Park at Historic Oakland Cemetery (Oct. 2, 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
On Oct. 2, Sunday in the Park, returns for a 37th year with a Victorian street festival offering a little something for everyone! Enjoy an afternoon of live musical entertainment, living history demonstrations, kid’s activities and much more.
Children under 3 are free
All proceeds from Sunday in the Park benefit Historic Oakland Foundation’s efforts to preserve, restore, enhance and share historic Oakland Cemetery.
Brookhaven Chili Cook Off (Oct. 8, 12:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.)
Music, kids’ activities, food trucks, football on big screens. And of course, lots of chili.
Marietta Chalktoberfest (Oct. 8-9)
Enjoy your afternoon sampling craft beers, live music from local artists, watching professional Chalk Artists chalk the streets and eating great food at the beautiful downtown square of Marietta.
Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade (Oct. 15)
Decatur Beer Festival (Oct. 15)
Unlimited sips from 80 breweries.
Tickets go on sale Sep. 15. More info.
Kennesaw Owl-O-Ween Hot Air Balloon Festival (Oct. 21-22)
Hot air balloons, extreme pumpkin carvers, costumes, food, beer, live entertainment, artist alley, etc. A heads up: the 2015 festival had issues with Groupons being oversold for Friday, creating parking and crowding issues. Hopefully, this year will be better prepared for crowds, but I feel it’s only fair to warn people that overcrowding has been a complaint more than one year.
World Kite Festival and Expo (Oct. 22, 1 – 6 p.m.)
Kite flying, food, face painting, demonstrations and live performances.
Piedmont Park in the Meadow
Taste of Atlanta (Oct. 21-23)
90+ restaurants and 4 cooking stages.
Midtown at Tech Square
Halloween Bar Crawls (Oct. 28-29)
Ticket includes admission into bars, some hosted Halloween themed drink/shots, deeply discounted drinks, great food & drink specials & costume contests.
Corn Mazes and Pumpkin Patches (Sep. – Nov., hours, dates vary)
So many to choose from! Here are a few:
So what are your favorite October activities? I’d love to hear from you…
