Mugs on Milton in Downtown Alpharetta, Georgia

IMG_5543I love independent coffee shops. This obsession dates back to my time as a student in Athens and my countless hours spent at Blue Sky. Coffee shops that aren’t Starbucks can be hard to come by in the suburbs of Atlanta, but they are there if you look hard enough. Today I met my parents at a new one that wasn’t too far from where I dropped my son off at camp.

Mugs on Milton was born when owner/operators Jenn and Gretchen decided they would beIMG_5547 the ones to answer the call of residents for a local coffee shop. And they did one even better — it’s also a bakery, offering cookies, scones and more. Limited quantities of lunch boxes containing a sandwich, chips and homemade cookie are available each day.

I can vouch for the mocha — it was the perfect level of sweetness for me. I also stole a piece of my mom’s cookie, and sort of regretted not getting my own.

IMG_5542But the atmosphere! Mugs on Milton embodies what I’m looking for in a coffee shop. Charming, cozy and quirky, with nooks and crannies, and lots of comfortable seating.

My son has another week of camp, so I’ll be back next week to sample some more goodies. In the meantime, check out their website for current hours and other information.
